Like many things in life, the stock market goes up and down. But generally, over time, the market tends to go up. It’s what happens in between that makes my job interesting.
A couple of weeks ago, good news became bad news. Jobs reported aplenty, the news began to stream, worries cascading, interest rates started going up, stocks will crash! Volatility spikes. Symbols flashing red, funds imploding. A roller coaster ride viewed from the comfort of my chair.

After many years, the engagement band became misshapen, buckling under the test of time. You see, while gold is strong, it’s also malleable. The restorative process involves cutting it open, igniting a flame’s heat, and then beading in droplets of gold, soldering the band back together. Every morning I stretch my imagination, a salt lamp lighting the darkness. It’s a thorough workout, beginning spread eagle on my writing room floor. A personal concoction, part yogic, part therapeutic, an homage to running thrown in for good measure. Winter chills the earth, snow drifting, winds bitter, darkness crowding daylight, the weather willing us to slow down. Many of us refuse to listen, bravely fighting the elements. With the onset of another year, it’s time to take stock of our lives. Things we want to keep doing, things we want to change. Work measured by goals achieved, family and friends by strength of relationship, community through involvement, leisure from enjoyment, spirituality emanating from a personal connection.
We’re all given one year with a daily currency. So much to do and only so much time, an acrobatic act. So let’s spend this time with firmness of resolve. Voices…..
